December 10 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Tracking Pollution in Escambia County
Event Details:
- Topic: Where Does Pollution from Ascend’s Nylon Plant Go?
- Location: Online via Zoom (sign up to attend)
- Date: Tuesday, December 10 at 7 PM CDT
Overview:
Ascend Performance Materials’ Cantonment Nylon plant releases the most Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) chemicals in Florida, making Escambia County one of the top counties in the country for pollution discharges. This session will teach you how to use online tools to track pollution from Ascend and other industrial facilities. You’ll learn how to find data on discharge amounts, types of chemicals, and permit status.
A new draft permit allows Ascend to continue these discharges through underground wells. There will be a public hearing where locals can learn more about the types of discharges, their impact on drinking water, and other concerns.
Speakers:
- Linda Young: Former director of Florida Clean Water Network, with 30+ years of experience in environmental advocacy.
- Christian Wagley: Coastal Organizer for Healthy Gulf, focused on water, climate, energy, and species protection on the Gulf Coast.
