Shades of Green- prioritizing tree planting in the winter.

Trees are in important part of the Santa Fe River ecosystem. They slow down storm runoff, enabling absorption and recharge of the aquifer. Winter is the best time to plant trees as cooler temperatures are less stressful on the plants.

In support of aquifer friendly landscaping and the cooling effects of trees, Our Santa Fe River is promoting a tree planting program during our cooler winter months by launching a FREE tree adoption. Our first event was on Saturday December 7th at the High Springs Tree Lighting Ceremony. We intend to do it again in the fall of 2025.

In 2024 we received tree donations from the Santa Fe Tree Company. We welcome other sponsors for the 2025 Shades of Green progra
