The Florida Legislative Session runs like a marathon from March 4, 2025 through May 2, 2025. Bills are already being crafted and it is our responsibility to engage with our representatives to let them know how much we value our natural resources. When we call, we either leave a message or speak to their aides after first providing our name and zip code. These conversations are important and are the most effective ways to voice our concerns.
Look up your REPRESENTATIVE Look up your SENATOR
Some organization provide an easy framework through action alerts to email representatives. For example, the ‘Parks Bill’ a.k.a. Senate Bill 80/House Bill 209 is presented by Sierra Club Florida action alert, 1000 Friends of Florida action alert, and the Florida Springs Council action alert. Popular bills are often introduced in both the Senate and the House with different language. They get ‘improved’ through negotiations. Strong public input helps orient these negotiations.
Some organizations offer legislative reviews to tract the bills as they move in both the Senate and the House. The League of Women Voters and 1000 Friends of Florida offer legislative review and webinars to discuss legislation. You can also sign up to track bills and watch their progress through committees.
Power to the people begins when each and every one of us participates in the process. Contacting our representatives, following the issues that matter to us.
