BP Denied

The following is taken from Healthy Gulf.  BP should be outlawed from  drilling anywhere, much less the Gulf of Mexico.  The horrible damage they did remains today, years after the event.  Their unethical behavior during the  Deepwater Horizon disaster shows they have no credibility.

BP’s risky deep water drilling plan sent back to the drawing board

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has rejected BP’s proposal for the Kaskida ultra-deepwater drilling project — a reckless plan to drill in high-risk waters of the Gulf. The company’s proposal was riddled with safety and environmental flaws, including a failure to prove it could prevent or contain another disaster like Deepwater Horizon.

Healthy Gulf was proud to stand with frontline communities and allies in calling out these dangers. In response to BOEM’s decision, our Executive Director Martha Collins underscored the stakes: “This proposal should never have gotten this far. The fact that BP attempted to push forward a project with such glaring safety and environmental risks shows yet again that the oil industry cannot be trusted to put public safety ahead of profit. Gulf communities deserve stronger protections, not further reckless oil and gas expansion in our waters.”

While this decision is a temporary relief, BP can still re-submit a revised proposal. Healthy Gulf will continue monitor closely and mobilize with our partners to protect Gulf communities, wildlife, and waters from dangerous projects like Kaskida.
