The river transitions at O’Leno. This stretch of the river marks the end of the upper Santa Fe. This dark and narrow passageway takes us from the confined to the unconfined aquifer. The upper Santa Fe River is fed by Lakes Santa Fe Alto, and Sampson, New River and Olustee Creeks, Worthington and Santa Fe Springs. It passes through mixed clay soils, confining the limestone capped aquifer. The Cody Escarpment provides the fissure that swallows the entire river and marks this transition to the unconfined. Below is a short video of this very special place.
