Airborn sturgeon are fascinating to watch as they migrate into dark rivers from the gulf after feeding all winter. Sturgeon come for the deep river holes to congregate, procreate, and hibernate through the hot summer months.

Known as an ancient wanderer, this prehistoric fish has rebounded from near extinction and are protected under the Endangered Species Act.They grow up to nine feet long and can weigh up to 300 lbs with a bony exoskeleton. Here is a FWC Factsheet about the sturgeon.
Sturgeon are feared by boaters because a collision can lead to bodily injury and death. Boaters are advised to go slow when navigating over the deep channels where the sturgeon reside.
