OSFR #GivingTuesday Newsletter
Our Santa Fe River, Inc. (OSFR) is grateful for your membership and support. This #GivingTuesday we are asking for your continued support in our efforts to protect the waters and lands supporting the aquifer, springs, and rivers within the watershed of the Santa Fe River.
This year, OSFR championed a variety of initiatives, including:
- Mentoring students at Fort White Middle School, who grew and reproduced aquatic plants native to our region with Aquatic Botanist Dr. Colette Jacono.
- Orchestrating tie-dye springs workshops, where participants gained a hands-on understanding of river hydrology by combining aquifer blues with tannic browns and nitrate yellows.
- Hosting RiverFest, an annual gathering of river conservationists and songwriters and musicians who composed original songs about the Santa Fe River.
- Hosting a tour highlighting water efficient landscaping at the University of Florida’s Landscaping Ecology Lab and the Madera Neighborhood in Gainesville.
- Curating and displaying Aquifer-friendly gardening links on our website.
- Organizing a water hyacinth pull to prevent the use of herbicides by FWC on waterways.
- Producing a Santa Fe Origins Tour YouTube video to educate, inform, and raise awareness of the Santa Fe River.
- Improving the demonstration garden at RUM 138, which emphasizes the importance of reducing our impact on the Floridan aquifer when landscaping.
Most recently for #GivingTuesday, OSFR has launched a series of informative posts and reels on Facebook and Instagram. Your contributions will help OSFR continue its advocacy efforts as well as launch new initiatives that protect our aquifer, springs, and rivers for generations to come. Our Santa Fe River, Inc. (OSFR) is a Florida 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to protecting the environment. OSFR was incorporated in Florida on December 18, 2007.
