River Rise and the Hornsby Springshed

River Rise is considered part of the  Hornsby Springshed, identified by Florida Statute as an Outstanding Florida Spring OFS. The Hornsby Springshed is defined as impaired for it’s elevated nitrate levels and in ‘recovery’ for it’s reduced flow.

This Springshed includes six springs : River Rise, Treehouse Spring, Col428981, Darby Spring, Hornsby Spring , and Columbia Springs.

Below are a few images from a paddle in March, 2025, with the river level at 32.33.
